Finding Used Ibanez Guitars

What are the best places to buy used ibanez guitars? That's a tough question. First off let's consider buying guitars offline. We'll think about buying guitars online later.
The major chain guitar stores often will have a great selection of used ibanez guitars. Guitar center is not bad if you like dealing with confusion as well as selection. They are one guitar shop with a large inventory of new and used guitars. Try and playing guitars there is not all that enjoyable however. For that reason I usually avoid guitar center and head to Sam Ash.
Sam Ash usually has a small amount of Ibanez guitars new and used. There selection of axes is usually hit and miss. They tend to have a fair amount of used Les Pauls which is nice. One the plus side, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is less hectic than the near bedlam of guitar center. I have purchased other used gear from Sam Ash as well, guitar cases, hard cases, etc. The prices are usually decent as well.
Independent shops are usually the most enjoyable and easiest places to shop for a used guitar. They salespeople at these places are most often underworked so they are pretty mellow and laid back. They know their merchandise and usually these places have more used guitars than new ones. Again it can be hit and miss. You would be lucky to find a nice used Ibanez S series guitar at one of these places. These are the kind of guitar stores that you need to and likely want to frequent in your guitar search.
Buying a guitar online is a different story altogether. To be honest I have never bought a guitar from an online music store. You need to sit down and play your Ibanez guitar before you go and buy it! Even if you already played that particular model, a used guitar can have peculiarities you may not like. Certainly the internet is a great tool for researching and learning about guitars of all brands and comparing prices. In particular ebay is really great for comparing prices on used guitars. They have a huge selection but again I’ve never taken the plunge and purchased a guitar on ebay. Guitars are big purchases and extremely personal endeavors. The internet is a great help in learning about guitar sales, but brick and mortar guitar shops are still essential for connecting with your instrument and buying that perfect used Ibanez guitar. Unfortunately you can’t avoid guitar center altogether.

I own an Ibanez Axstar Bass Guitar Serial # A860251, Model # AXB 50 BK, I am trying to get info on parts avalibility and what is it worth in todays market. I bought it in July of 1986. No one has ever seen one when I show it to them. any info you can provide will be appreciated THank You, BOB
To Conrad Garrett,
1987 - 1996 - Guitars built in Japan between these years will have a serial number beginning with F followed by 6 numbers. F is the production factory which stands for Fujigen. The first digit will be the last digit of the year, ie. F8***** is a guitars made in Fujigen in 1988. The last 5 numbers will be the consecutive number denoting production count for the year. 25899 would be the 25899th guitar built that year.
1997 - Present - Under the old numbering scheme 1997 would show duplicate numbers to 1987 so the serial number was changed to the F and 7 digits, now the first 2 denoting year of production. F98***** is a guitar built by Fujigen in 1998. The last 5 digits continue as a consecutive production count for the year.
Factories - Shown as F for Fujigen in the examples above, other factories used that mainly produced the budget models were C for Cort [Korea], S for Samick [Korea], W for World [Korea], and guitars are also built in Indonesia, China, and who knows where else. These serial numbers are usually quite different from the MIJ numbers, have many extra digits because of the enormous volume of guitars produced, and I am not familiar enough with any of them to tell you how to figure out the dating.
There is a strong chance yours is an RG model if the body is thick with squared edges rather than rounded edges. There are a number of RG numbers in 1990 from I think RG470 up to RG770 If the inlay is better than just a dot, it’s a slightly better version than just the dot. And, HSH pick-up design is a better version than HSS. Also, guitars that came with the Original Edge and Lo Pro Edge are the best ones. There’s some info that will help ya.
The Ibanez Axstar is probably one of the best playing bass guitars ever made the post above to the person who has one: They are very rare and just not on the market, I have been trying to get my hands on one for years, what do you want for yours?

My first love was my 1986. Ibenez Axstar. My how i miss her. She was pirly white and so beautiful that when you held her in your arms, you felt as though your hart sang along with hers. Her long beautiful neck yearnd to be caressed and stroked. Her inviting belly loved the attention from skilled fingres. Ho how i miss her. Her soft body and curves werea vision of lovlyness, and she was a welcome site after a bad day at school. We would play for hours on end composing our love and making sweet sounds of passion. She was my best friend and my medicine, the cure for my depression and frustrated social blues. I still weep sometimes over her being such a major part of my life. She never let me down, and i took such great care of her, Polishing her smoothe body, and strumming her verry low set strings. And showing the apreciation for such a giving riend… She was stolen from me while i was at work. My hart sank and i was alone. No instrument could ever replace her. As i still shed a tear from time to time…..
I own an Axstar AXB 50BK. I’ve had it since late 80s and yes Its a beautiful guitar to play.
I, like you have not been able to find a current dollar value for it. Not that I want to sell it as they are a rare item but it would be interesting to find out their value
